"Mido court chaos! Crowd threatens defence lawyer!" - Daily Sun

The front page and lead story in SA's largest daily newspaper, March 12 2013

Daily Sun (March 12 2013) - AS MORE and more people come forward with personal experiences of terror and brutality in police cells, it appears Mido's death in custody was not an isolated case. And yesterday, the anger of the people almost boiled over outside the Benoni Magistrates Court. A POLICE LAWYER HAD TO BE ESCORTED TO SAFETY BY EKURHULENI METRO COPS. "We will drag you at the back of your own car the way those cops dragged Mido!" shouted residents as one of the lawyers was almost attacked by the people....

According to the affidavit presented by the prosecutor, Mido arrived at the police station without his trousers. He was crying, bleeding, handcuffed and had an injury on his head. Witnesses at the station said the accused left him to die in a pool of blood while handcuffed and waiting to be charged until other cops - who are not suspects - called an ambulance. The autopsy found Mido had extensive internal and external injuries. There were cuts at the back of his head, his scalp and jaw. He had abrasions on his body and had bled badly in his right lung and in the tissue round his heart. See the Daily Sun mobi site for more...
