NPA and BLSA to enhance collaboration

Memorandum of Understanding comes at an important time as NPA ramps up efforts to respond to Zondo Commission

National Prosecuting Authority and Business Leadership SA sign a memorandum to enhance collaboration

5 August 2022

Today, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) led by the National Director of Public Prosecutions, Adv Shamila Batohi and Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), led by its Chief Executive Officer, Ms Busi Mavuso signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing collaboration between the NPA and BLSA.

The nature and extent of crime and high-level corruption in SA means that the NPA must explore bold and innovative ways to secure the resources and skills required to effectively and sustainably deliver on its prosecutorial mandate in line with the Constitution and the NPA Act. This will require a collaborative approach with multiple partners. NPA has extensive experience working with a broad range of partners, including Business Against Crime and the private sector, to leverage additional skills and support, while protecting our independence and perceptions of undue influence.

This MoU with BLSA comes at an important time as the NPA ramps up efforts to respond to the Zondo Commission and other commissions of enquiry and build a fit-for-purpose organisation.

It’s part of a broader series of engagements with partners to provide in-kind support to the NPA in selected areas, including providing specialised skills required to prosecute complex corruption such as forensic accountants, and data analysts, etc.

The NPA is a key part of South Africa’s broader fight against corruption and state capture, and we look forward to expanding our collaboration with relevant actors from the government and the private sector to enhance our collective impact.
