Daily Sun (May 9 2013) - SJAMBOK the lot of them! That was the shock advice from a traditional healer to residents for dealing with politicians who don't deliver. AND THE RESIDENTS CHEERED! Collich Makhubele was talking at a meeting of residents with Mopani Municipality Mayor Joshua Matlou in Msengi Village, Limpopo, this week.

Collich, a well-known healer in the area, pulled no punches when discussing district authorities. He said they deserved to be sjambokked if they failed to deliver key services. "If it was possible, I would sjambok all you senior leaders," he declared.

As the crowd cheered he told officials, including the mayor: "I haven't bathed in a long time because we don't have water here, yet you have water in your homes. "We voted for you so you would represent us, not look after your own stomachs while we suffer."

Chairman of the local taxi association, Thomas Rikhotso, supported Collich. He complained: "We were told in 2008 that the road here would be tarred. "But after waiting for years, we were told that it had been taken off the budget. The gravel road is damaging our taxis."

When he tried to respond to the road issue, Mayor Matlou was accused by angry residents of dodging the real question.
