I was raised by a single mother and I want lectures to continue - #TakeBackWits student

Johannesburg - Zakhele Zaba, a final year BCom student who is part of the #TakeBackWits group, says it is their constitutional right to want to return to class.

Zaba said he was raised in an ANC household, and also by a single mother, and wanted lectures to resume.

"There are better ways to be handling this than the way they have been."

He said there was a huge misconception that the #TakeBackWits movement was only about the white students.

"There are a lot of black students who are sitting at home who want to go back to lectures, but they are scared of being called names and being victimised," Zaba said.

The #TakeBackWits group was confronted by a small group of white #FeesMustFall students on the west campus earlier on Wednesday.

The #TakeBackWits managed to push through them, and as they continued walking towards the Great Hall, the small #FeesMustFall group tore up some of their posters.

When the students who wanted lectures to continue arrived in front of the Great Hall, they sat down with their posters.

After sitting for about 10 minutes, the #TakeBackWits group got up and began walking away as the #FeesMustFall protesters danced in a circle.
