8 young men killed by Pretoria cops in 1 year - UDM

Ntopile Kganyago says Bheki Cele has encouraged a shoot-to-kill culture

POLICE SHOOT-TO-KILL CULTURE IS DANGEROUS

The UDM extends its condolences to the friends and family of Nathi Ntuli who was gunned down by Pretoria police officers yesterday.

By all accounts the victim was unarmed. According to reports he is the 8th young man killed in Pretoria by the police in less than a year. We cannot tolerate the growing trend of callous murder of unarmed civilians by trigger-happy police officers. The war-talk adopted by 'general' Cele only fuels reckless behaviour and is a paltry substitute for substantive crime-fighting strategy.

We urge the Independent Complaints Directorate to investigate the matter swiftly.

Statement issued by Ntopile Kganyago, MP, UDM deputy president, July 13 2010
