12 out of SA's top 58 local municipalities DA run - DA

Marti Wenger says govt's own report proves that the opposition delivers

Government report champions DA municipalities

A report tabled by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs shows that five out the six municipalities run outright by the Democratic Alliance are classified in the top tier of the 58 best performing municipalities in the country. The report, entitled ‘State of Local Government in South Africa', also shows a further seven municipalities in which the DA co-governs with other parties appear on the top performing list.

These 58 local authorities are defined as the ‘Highest Performing Local Municipalities' by the report, and this constitutes proof that, even by the ANC government's own admission, that DA delivers and it delivers to the highest standard.

The twelve DA municipalities on the list represent 21% of the top 58.

The municipalities we govern outright and that are in the list are:

1. Midvaal Local Municipality
2. Cederberg Local Municipality
3. Swartland Local Municipality
4. Overstrand Local Municipality
5. Mossel Bay Local Municipality

The municipalities in the list that we co-govern include:

6. Matzikama Local Municipality
7. Bergrivier Local Municipality
8. Witzenberg Local Municipality
9. Thweewaterskloof Local Municipality
10. Swellendam Local Municipality
11. George Local Municipality
12. Oudtshoorn Local Municipality

The ANC is always accusing the DA of not delivering services. But this is objective and conclusive proof from the government's own study, that we provide excellence and meet high standards.

By the same logic the ANC should look at the rest of underperforming municipalities that fall outside of the top 58, the majority of which they are responsible for. If there is proof of mismanagement and inefficiency according to their own report they should focus their energies on fixing those rather than worrying about municipalities that they don't control and that are efficiently run.
