DA WELCOMES DIRECT MEDICINE ORDERING BY GAUTENG HOSPITALS
The Democratic Alliance welcomes the announced shift at 20 Gauteng hospitals to order medicines directly from suppliers instead of through an inefficient and corruption-plagued medical depot.
It is a good idea to cut out "middlemen" where possible, and the medical depot In Gauteng has been very dysfunctional.
The transition to the new system must be handled carefully, however, as administrative capacity needs to be built up to implement direct ordering.
The need will also remain for central procurement of medicines for clinics.
I hope that the new system works as I still get reports of medicine shortages from anxious patients.
