Premier Winde calls on residents to play their part in protecting the healthcare system
As we approach our peak of the third wave, I call on all our residents to come together to protect our healthcare system and save lives. It is more important than ever to keep on practising the life-saving behaviours we have learnt over the last year.
While our hospitals are currently coping under the pressure, and we continue to have adequate oxygen supplies and intermediate and acute care beds, our critical care capacity remains stretched. We therefore all have an important role to play by protecting ourselves and those we love.
Please:
- Wear your mask properly, covering your nose and mouth.
- Wash and sanitise your hands regularly.
- Avoid crowded places, confined spaces and close contact.
- Keep your gatherings short, small and outdoors – with lots of ventilation.
- Drink responsibly and do not drink and drive.
- Get vaccinated when it is your turn.
- Stay home if you feel sick. If you have any difficulty breathing, seek urgent medical treatment.
- Help protect those at highest risk – especially those who are older, and those with comorbidities.
- Continue to protect your family bubble.
Let’s play our part and break the chain of transmission so that we can keep on saving lives and livelihoods in the Western Cape.
Premier Winde attends launch of Cipla pop-up vaccine site in Khayelitsha
Today, I attended the launch Cipla’s pop-up vaccination site, located at the Khayelitsha District Hospital. The freestanding pop-up container will support the hospital in its vaccine rollout, ensuring that more residents can get vaccinated in a safe and conveniently located setting.
It allows for patients to register for their vaccine, while reducing congestion at the hospital’s vaccination site. It is anticipated that it will serve predominantly younger members of the community.
With the support of this pop-up site, Khayelitsha Hospital anticipates that it will be able to vaccinate approximately 300 patients a day.
I want to encourage all residents in the Western Cape to take advantage of the excellent services that we are providing by registering and receiving your COVID-19 vaccine. Doing so will ensure that we achieve herd immunity and save both lives and livelihoods.
The Western Cape Government remains committed to rolling out a world-class vaccination programme, providing each resident with a vaccine opportunity in a safe and conveniently located setting. We cannot, however, do this alone which is why I am greatly appreciative of the support provided by the private sector.
