Swift arrest of murder suspects

KING WILIAM’S TOWN –Three (3) suspects arrested for the murder of a farmer in Addo.

Members of a private security company contacted the Kabega Park SAPS about a suspicious looking silver Mazda bakkie parked near a service station in the Greenbushes area at about 01:00 this morning. Police responded and, on arrival at the garage, the members found the vehicle still on the premises and started to question the three occupants about the ownership of the vehicle (see HeraldLive report).

The members established that the bakkie belonged to a 62-year-old farmer from Addo. Police members also noticed blood stains on the back of the bakkie and after further questioning of the suspects, one of them admitted to their involvement in an attack on the elderly farmer. The police and the suspects proceeded to the crime scene, where the suspects indicated the place where the body of the farmer was left.

The three suspects were arrested and charged with murder. They will appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The motive for the murder and the exact circumstance surrounding the case is not clear at this stage and will form part of the investigation.

The Mount Road Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the late Mr Allan Clarke from the farm Sundowner. He also commended the members and security officers for their good observations and collaboration which led to the swift arrests of the suspects. Information and the willingness to share valuable information is key to the prevention and detection of crime,” said Brig Koll.
