6 000 DA supporters to march on Luthuli House - Helen Zille

Party leader says protest will highlight failure of Jacob Zuma's ANC to create jobs

DA will take fight for 6 million REAL jobs to Luthuli House

On Tuesday the 4th of February, I will lead six thousand DA supporters in a march to Luthuli House, the ANC's headquarters in central Johannesburg. Each DA supporter will represent 1,000 unemployed South Africans who will benefit from the 6 million REAL jobs that the DA will create if elected to national government.

We are taking the fight to Luthuli House to highlight the failure of Jacob Zuma's ANC to cut corruption and create jobs. And we will expose Jacob Zuma's manifesto promise of 6 million "work opportunities" as bogus. These are not real jobs. They are temporary public works placements that will do little to grow the economy and lift people out of poverty permanently and sustainably.

This is not the first time that President Zuma has misled the people of South Africa with a false jobs promise. When he was elected President in 2009, Jacob Zuma promised to create 5 million more jobs. Instead, since then 1.4 million more jobs have been lost. The economic progress made by the Mandela and Mbeki administrations has been decimated by President Zuma and his group that run the ANC and the government.

Jacob Zuma's clique has given up on jobs for everyone and is only interested in enriching themselves and their friends. His failure to create jobs is the single defining record of his term in office. We are going to make the point that a vote for Jacob Zuma's ANC is a vote for more unemployment. A vote for the DA is a vote for 6 million REAL jobs. Our plan will be set out at our manifesto launch.

We have informed the Johannesburg Metro Police Department of our intention to march, and as a courtesy we have also informed ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe that the march will take place. We have guaranteed him that our march will be peaceful, and that we expect our Constitutional right to gather and protest to be respected.
