7% wage increase for workers at Rotek Industries – NUMSA

Union believes the creators of wealth must share in the wealth and this is why we welcome this agreement

NUMSA welcomes the signing of a 7% wage increase for workers at Rotek Industries

14 July 2023

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) has signed a collective agreement with Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI), which is a subsidiary of Eskom. Rotek is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eskom Enterprises, and it is part of Eskom Holdings. It was established to provide construction, maintenance and transportation services in support of Eskom operations.

The agreement is broken down in the following way:

1.     We have agreed to a three year agreement starting from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2026

2.     Wages will be increased by 7% for each year of the agreement

3.     Housing allowance will also increase by 7% for each year of the agreement

4.     Workers will receive a once off taxable gratuity payment of R10 000 for the first year, and in the second year, they will receive another R10 000 gratuity.

5.     Parties agree to deal with outstanding issues within 6 months. The issues which will be dealt with are:

- The provision of new medical aid suppliers

- 6 months maternity leave

- That Eskom ERI employees get the same benefits as Eskom Bargaining Unit employees

- To consider the amendments of the House agreement, and consider amendments for the recognition agreement, which includes the disciplinary code and procedure and the Grievance procedure.

NUMSA welcomes the signing of this agreement and the fact that workers will receive a benefit of a R10 000 gratuity for the first two years of the agreement. We have also secured an inflation based increase for three years and this is definitely an achievement given the current economic climate.

NUMSA believes the creators of wealth must share in the wealth and this is why we welcome this agreement. We want to thank our officials for negotiating this wage deal and for securing these improvements for workers.

Aluta continua!

The struggle continues!
