9/20 best performing depts in WCape - John Steenhuisen

DA MP says DPME report ranks provincial depts of education, Premier's office and agriculture, among others, amongst the best

9 out of top 20 best performing departments are in the Western Cape

A report by the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) reveals that 9 out of the 20 best performing government departments are in the DA-led Western Cape Government.

The DA congratulates the Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille and her Cabinet for once again delivering the best to all residents of the Western Cape. The report is a welcome indication that the Western Cape is indeed the best.

We acknowledge that there is still more to achieve. The DA will strive to continue on an upward trajectory. We will also intensify our efforts to deliver excellent services in the other municipalities where we govern such as Midvaal, across the country and ultimately South Africa.

The report forms part of a collaborative initiative led by DPME and measures departments' performance on four criteria:

  • Strategic management;
  • Governance and accountability;
  • Human resource management and systems; and
  • Financial management.

After assessing 156 departments, in the top 20, 9 are in the Western Cape:

  • Community Safety;
  • Transport & Public Works;
  • Education;
  • Office of the Premier;
  • Economic Development & Tourism;
  • Agriculture;
  • Health;
  • Culture Arts & Sports; and
  • Local Government.

In 2014, the DA will campaign to govern more Provinces in South Africa. We believe that every single Province deserves the DA-difference.

Statement issued by John Steenhuisen MP, DA Shadow Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, June 13 2013
