ActionSA to table MONC against Chair of Chairs

ActionSA will, in the next Council meeting, table a motion of no confidence against the Chair of Chairs in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Colleen Makhubele.
Cllr Makhubele has demonstrated how unsuitable she is to hold office in the City of Johannesburg and has exposed her willingness to break laws in order to pursue political power. ActionSA will therefore demote her to an ordinary councillor so she is not confused about what her role and powers within the City of Johannesburg.
Last night, the South Gauteng High Court ruled that the notice she discharged, convening “the 8th Extra Ordinary Council meeting of the City of Johannesburg for the 13th of September 2022” was “invalid, null and void”. The court also declared her not to be Acting Speaker and further ordered that “she is interdicted from holding herself out as or purporting to be exercising any of the statutory functions of the Acting Speaker of the City of Johannesburg.”
Throughout this past week she has demonstrated a complete disregard for due process and reason. One can only deduce that this was to advance her own personal self-interest at the expense of the residents that she swore an oath to serve under a multi-party coalition government. It is on that basis that ActionSA will move to have her removed as the Chair of Chairs.
If it was up to us, she would no longer be a councillor, which is why ActionSA will table a complaint for an Ethics Committee investigation into Makhubele’s conduct with the newly elected Speaker.
ActionSA will also be tabling further motions of no confidence against ATM’s Cllr Lubabalo Magwentshu who chairs the Health and Social Development Section 79 Committee, and UDM’s Cllr Thandiwe Nontenja who chairs the MPAC Section 79 Committee, both of whom voted with the opposition to remove the Speaker.
Their conduct has proven destructive to this multiparty coalition’s programme of action and a violation of the will of the residents of Johannesburg to see a coalition alternative to failed ANC governance.
We believe these positions should be held by coalition parties who are committed to this coalition and are not susceptible to undue inducements. ActionSA will be advocating its position within the multi-party coalition that these positions should be used to strengthen the coalition and improve its stability going forward.
We call on all councillors to put the interest of the residents ahead of their own and to support these motions for a more effective and stable coalition government in the City of Johannesburg.
