AfriForum accepts Malema's challenge - ready to fight case in the highest court

AfriForum responded to Julius Malema's statement yesterday that he (= Malema) is prepared to fight up to the level of the Constitutional Court to defend the use of inciting slogans, by stating that AfriForum accepts Malema's challenge and that AfriForum's legal team is itself ready to fight the case to Constitutional Court level and even at international forums.

According to Kallie Kriel, CEO of AfriForum, his organisation regards this case as being of such high importance that no costs will be spared in the process of calling Malema to order.  Kriel alleges that it is irresponsible of Malema to continue defending slogans like "Shoot the Boer" under circumstances where the levels of violent crime and murders are reaching crisis measures in South Africa.  "While Malema is contending that his inflaming statements should not be interpreted literally, people are currently literally being murdered," Kriel said.

Kriel indicated that AfriForum will go ahead with the Stop Malema campaign in order to mobilise as many people as possible against Malema's divisive statements.  AfriForum's campaign was once again advertised in a national Sunday paper yesterday and more than 70 000 people have already given their support to the campaign either by SMS or via AfriForum's Stop Malema Facebook group.
