AfriForum continues its fight against Expropriation Bill

Organisation makes use of opportunity for comments created by WeCape parliament

AfriForum continues its fight against Expropriation Bill with written comments submitted to the Western Cape parliament

15 June 2023

The civil rights organisation AfriForum this week submitted further written comments against the Expropriation Bill [B 23 – 2020]. This follows after the Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Infrastructure opened an opportunity for comments on the Bill.

In 2023 AfriForum submitted written comments against the Expropriation Bill to the Select Committee on Transport, Public Service and Administration, Public Works and Infrastructure, as well as the Gauteng Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Infrastructure Development and Property Management. In addition AfriForum’s Gauteng representatives delivered oral presentations opposing the Bill in June.

“Wherever an opportunity presents itself to make submissions against this destructive Bill, AfriForum will be at the forefront,” says Ernst van Zyl, Campaign Officer for Strategy and Content at AfriForum.

“Over the years, public pressure drove the ANC to back down from many catastrophic ideas. This Expropriation Bill is no different. Wherever civil society and the citizenry can apply pressure, we need all hands on deck,” concludes Van Zyl.

AfriForum has made it easy for the public to comment against this Bill by simply going to www.onteiening.co.za.
