Media reports and inundated enquiries on SACP’s declaration to fight attempts at factional, corrupt and corporate capture of our movement
31 August 2015
Following its Central Committee Plenary Session that was held from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August and its concluding press conference the South African Communist Party (SACP) has been inundated with enquiries on media reports about something called the “premier league”. Both the Political Report and the Central Committee correctly condemned manoeuvres at factional, corrupt and corporate capture of our movement, but did not mention any names of individuals or the positions that they hold.
The attempts at factional, corrupt and corporate capture of our movement condemned by the Central Committee include the use of money to buy votes, stifle internal democratic processes and isolate the alliance and its partners. The Central Committee expressed concern that this appears to be increasing in the run to 2017, which will be an important year in our movement characterised by leadership elections, and that what happens in one alliance component must be taken seriously because of the potential negative impact on the alliance as a whole and its other components.
These crucial matters have been the subject of internal debate in our alliance. The alliance summit both in its deliberations and declaration was categorical that we all need to combat these negative tendencies.
The SACP will continue to engage with other alliance components internally and intensify the fight against the attempts at factional, corrupt and corporate capture of our movement regardless who is involved in such divisive and counterrevolutionary activities!
