All uncertainties around Mr Jordaan to be ventilated in an open court; that is justice, says Committee Chair

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Joe McGluwa, has noted the arrest and subsequent appearance at Palm Ridge Magistrate Court of the South African Football Association (SAFA) President, Mr Danny Jordaan.
Mr McGluwa is hopeful that his arrest will not destabilise SAFA regions and that work will continue as normal. “The long overdue appearance in court of Mr Jordaan will hopefully bring about all the necessary organisational stability. We hope all of the uncertainties around him will be ventilated in an open court, and that justice will prevail,” he said.
Mr McGluwa said the people of South Africa have needed answers for quite some time, particularly around what had allegedly transpired with money and development related to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Mr Jordaan appeared at the Palm Ridge Magistrate Court on Wednesday. He is facing fraud and theft charges related to the use of SAFA resources for personal gain, and an amount of R1.3 million, which was allegedly paid to a private company to influence media reporting about SAFA.
Mr McGluwa said that in taking leave from his post, Mr Jordaan has done the honourable thing. “That is standard practice once leaders are charged; they step aside to allow for processes to unfold. That does not require a council vote,” added Mr McGluwa.
