ANC Statement on Faeces incidents in Cape Town
The African National Congress Dullah Omar REC condemns in the harshest possible terms the recent spates of faces attacks and demonstrations in Cape Town.
The pouring of human faeces on the steps of parliament on Monday was not perpetrated by the ANC, members of the Youth league or any other person connected to the party.
The act of pouring faces on the steps of parliament denigrates the institution of parliament itself as a democratic institution of the people and whilst we agree that the treatment, by the DA government, of the people living in townships is appalling, we distance ourselves from these acts of vandalism. Whilst the frustration that led to this act is understandable given the conditions the DA has allowed to persist in the poorest communities, we cannot support this particular act.
Similarly today, it is unbecoming and unprofessional of certain media publications to take sides in political disputes and claim that ANC Youth league members were responsible for throwing faces at the Premiers bus yesterday, without any evidence or facts. Again, the REC condemns these acts of throwing faces at the Premier's bus in the strongest terms. This is clearly a community action in response to the ongoing portable toilet protests and not an ANC plot as claimed by media publications and the DA.
The fact is that the frustration being reflected by township communities are a direct result of DA government's failure to deliver services to the many residents of black and coloured townships and have shown, again and again, that they do not care for the needs of the poor and marginalised.
