ANC region to investigate ousted councillor
The ANC regional executive committee (REC) has at a meeting on Saturday 2 March 2013 resolved to institute its own investigation after the removal as Cape Town councillor of Mr Andile Lili on Friday 1 March 2013 by the Western Cape local government MEC. Lili lost his position as a result of an alleged breach of the code of conduct for councillors (see EWN report).
Comrade Andile Lili is also an ANC REC member and knows that the ANC policy as reaffirmed at the Mangaung national conference determined in its resolutions that: "The ANC members who are found guilty of wrongdoing in other institutions of society should also be subjected to internal disciplinary processes in line with the ANC code of conduct. This will send an unambiguous message in society that the ANC does not tolerate any wrongdoing, including corruption, amongst its members."
The REC determined that the allegations levelled at Mr Lili are on face value of a serious nature.
These are therefore referred for investigation to the REC disciplinary committee that will in due time start with its task. Mr Lili will be afforded a fair chance to put his account for consideration.
The REC will await the outcome of its own internal investigation together with recommendations, before the REC will pronounce on the merits of the matter.
