ANC Caucus Statement on the Broadcasting Amendment Bill
The ANC Parliamentary Caucus welcomes the passing of the Broadcasting Amendment Bill by the National Assembly today. The Broadcasting Amendment Bill seeks to effect certain amendments to the Broadcasting Act, 1999.
The Bill was referred back to Parliament by the President due to reservations around the constitutionality of Clause 3, which deals with the removal of the SABC Board. The amended clause of the Bill now provide for the fact that, in the event that Parliament wishes to act against the Board or a member of the Board, due process must be followed.
Caucus commends both Parliament and the President for the thoroughness with which the Bill was dealt.
The Bill will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.
