DIP being impersonated to distribute malicious statements

ANC condemns fake news peddlers

18 August 2021

The African National Congress (ANC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the work of fake news peddlers who are hell bent on spreading lies and undermining the standing of the ANC in society.

These fake news peddlers have now arrogated themselves the role of impersonating the ANC's department of information and publicity (DIP), including distributing false and malicious statements to feed into their nefarious appetite.

The latest in this regard is a fake media statement purporting to be from DIP, in which untested and unsubstantiated allegations are made against National Officials, specifically President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy Secretary General Jessie Duarte.

It is clear that wedge drivers who hate to see a united ANC are now on overdrive, trying everything possible to undermine the unity and collective resolve of our leadership to renew our movement.

We urge our structures and members to remain vigilant and defend the unity of their organisation against those who seek to weaken it. The unity of our movement remains sacrosanct and far more paramount than peddlers who thrive on deception.
