ANC STATEMENT ON THE APPOINTMENT OF THE RESERVE BANK GOVERNOR

The African National Congress congratulates Leseja Kganyago on his appointment as the Governor Designate of the South African Reserve Bank. His appointment will assist the organisation to continue on its work and mandate without any disruption as he had been one of the two Deputy Governor to the outgoing Governor, Gill Marcus.

He will bring into the position experience and diligence he has displayed during his tenure as the Director General of the National Treasury and as well as the Deputy Governor. We believe that under his stewardship we will see an effective reserve bank that has always been key in our prudent fiscal management that has always generated impactful interventions.

We want to take this opportunity to thank Comrade Gill Marcus for the manner she led this critical organ of our fiscal policy with precision in its decisions and effectiveness in responding to continuous and delicate challenges of managing our currency in a demanding environment. We wish her well in her future endeavours.
