ANC Statement on Tlokwe Municipality

The African National Congress has noted the recent developments in Tlokwe Municipality where ANC councilors participated in a meeting whose outcome was communicated as the removal of Comrade Mapetla Mapetla as the Mayor, the appointment of an Opposition Councilor as a Mayor and the appointment of a Municipal Manager.

The ANC is deeply angered by its councilors involved in this matter for their appalling and unacceptable behaviour, which is clearly an act of defiance and a calculated effort to bring shame and embarrassment to the organisation. This desperate and atrocious behaviour occurs at a time when the councilors involved are currently undergoing internal disciplinary processes of the ANC for the first time they committed the same offence.

Their behaviour is a clear and unambiguous message to the African National Congress that they no longer have interest to serve the people of Tlokwe or to remain members of the African National Congress. We will therefore swiftly and decisively invoke our disciplinary tools to deal conclusively with this matter. 

The African National Congress shall further institute an enquiry to determine the procedural correctness of this process and its outcome. We shall spare no effort in seeking to determine the motive behind this unacceptable and inexcusable conduct that is clearly designed to hand over the municipality to the opposition at all cost, including undermining democratic process and disregarding the wishes of the people.
