ANC KZN condemns Fikile Mbalula's comments

Party calls on the NWC to call sports minister to account for his attack on Jacob Zuma

ANC KZN RESPONDS TO MBALULA'S COMMENTS

22 October 2012

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has noted with grave concern the comments in the media that have been attributed to Comrade Fikile Mbalula, an ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member.

Various Independent Newspapers' titles today quoted Cde Mbalula insulting President Jacob Zuma, something that we sturdily believe deserves to be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has noted with severe concern, the tendency of some ANC NEC members who choose to raise their concerns in the media and not in the proper platforms of the organisation. This tendency does not only undermine the leadership of the organisation but erodes the principles which define the political life of the ANC.

We call on Cde Mbalula to withdraw all the comments he made in the media and if his concerns are true, he must raise them within the structures of the organization. If he fails to withdraw the statements, we would suggest he resigns as an NEC member and as a Sports Minister since he has made it clear that he "has no time for President Zuma".

It is equally important to remind Comrade Mbalula that the opening of the nomination process for ANC leaders early this month did not mean that people should insult their comrades. We have observed his desperate attempts to get elected to the ANC top six in Mangaung in December. Perhaps Cde Mbalula should be reminded that in the ANC, people do not campaign for themselves but instead are nominated by ANC structures.

The claim that Cde Mbalula "delivered" the current ANC leadership during the last national conference in Polokwane is nothing but opportunism and stem from paranoia as he is trying to project himself as the King Maker.

The current ANC leadership was elected during the 52nd National Conference which was attended by branches and structures of the organisation. What Mbalula is saying is nothing but an insult to members of the organization as he creates an impression that branches were told by him who to elect.  As the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal, we call on the ANC National Working Committee (NWC) to call Mbalula to account on these comments as they are undermining the integrity of the organization.
