ANC CONGRATULATES KWAZULU-NATAL MUNICIPALITIES
The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal wishes to congratulate the municipalities that have received clean audits, a development which has confirmed that our province is a shining example of excellent service delivery in South Africa.
According to the Auditor General, Terrence Nombembe's report, of the 13 municipalities that received clean audits, five are in KwaZulu-Natal and the majority of municipalities that received unqualified audits are also in the province. This is a sign of positive financial management and good governance. The ANC views this as a clear endorsement of the fact that KwaZulu-Natal is a leader when it comes to service delivery.
The ANC calls on the MEC of Cooperative Governance, Nomusa Dube, to immediately arrest the concerning trend of irregular expenditure which seems to be on the rise in some of our municipalities. While irregular expenditure may not necessarily equate corruption, the ANC wants a thorough examination of this trend so that it does not compromise the progress our municipalities have achieved under the leadership of the ANC.
The ANC commits itself to working with all stake holders to ensure that there is an improved management of resources in municipalities.
