ANC must walk the talk on ‘Nkandlagate' corruption

I will today challenge ANC Chief Whip, Mathole Mothsekga, as the head of his party's parliamentary caucus, to support the DA's call for a debate in Parliament on ‘Nkandlagate'. 

The ANC's silence on the R250 million upgrade to President Zuma's private home in Nkandla has been deafening.

• Not a single ANC MP has used a member's statement opportunity in the National Assembly to push for a ministerial response on this matter.
• Not a single written or oral question on this matter has been submitted by an ANC MP.
• The Standing Committee on Appropriations, chaired by ANC MP, Elliot Sogoni, has seemingly ignored my request for an investigation.
• It required action from the opposition-chaired Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) for any investigation to be initiated. The ANC has not been supportive of this process.
• The Deputy Speaker, Nomaindia Mfeketo, turned down my request for a debate of public importance on Nkandlagate, when its clearly a matter of huge importance to the South African people.

If the ANC in Parliament is really committed to accountability and the fight against corruption, then Dr Mothsekga will have nothing to hide in a debate on Nkandlagate and will accordingly support my request this week to National Assembly Speaker, Max Sisulu, for the Nkandlagate scandal to be tabled as a subject for discussion at the earliest available opportunity.

Now is the time for the ANC to walk the talk on corruption. South Africans want answers on Nkandlagate, not more ANC hypocrisy.
