ANC must rein in Bheki Mtolo immediately – Dean Macpherson

DA MP says ANC KZN PS is accused of trying to secure a payment for a business forum

ANC must rein in Bheki Mtolo immediately

26 July 2023

The DA in KwaZulu-Natal calls on the ANC to rein in their destructive and damaging Provincial Secretary, Bheki Mtolo after continued allegations against him for trying to secure a payment for a business forum.

It has now come to light and confirmed in a recent television interview that Mtolo has admitted to trying to facilitate a R5 million payment between the eThekwini Municipality and the Amadelangokubona Business Forum.

The money is allegedly ‘owed’ to the forum because they ‘foiled’ an elaborate plot to bomb Durban City Hall, reservoirs and transport infrastructure.

It is now confirmed that the ANC Provincial Secretary facilitated a meeting between the forum and municipality to resolve this so-called payment owed to the them. This is irregular and illegal and must be condemned.

Firstly, it is highly questionable about the claims of the forum as there has been no intelligence provided to prove that any plot existed and if it did, the State Security Agency should immediately arrest those who attempted to act as terrorists in the city during the July 2021 unrest.

Secondly, if such a terrorist plot did exist, why is the ANC and Bheki Mtolo not demanding that these alleged terrorist are not brought to book as they potentially remain a danger to the residents of KZN? Instead they are trying to appease a protection racket.

Lastly, it is more likely that no such plot existed and the business forum is leveraging its proximity to the ANC to demand money from the ratepayers of eThekwini which has become all too common in the city.

The ANC leadership can no longer sit back and allow Mtolo to continue with this damaging behaviour which includes pacifying business forums and extortion rings.

While some may find his outbursts and views entertaining, his utterances and meddling in government risk the very stability of our province should those he serves not get their way.

Luckily, in May 2024, the people of KwaZulu-Natal will able to rid themselves of the ANC by voting in a new coalition government which will put the people of this province first.
