ANC proves its anti-poor by insisting on bicycle lanes – John Moodey

DA says R70 million can be used for service delivery in Alexandra township but Parks Tau is opposed to plan

ANC proves its anti-poor by insisting on bicycle lanes for Sandton

15 September 2016

ANC Johannesburg Chairperson, Councillor Parks Tau’s comments that he is opposed to the DA-run City of Johannesburg’s plan to redirect R70 million -  originally budgeted for bicycle lanes in areas such as Sandton - to service delivery in Alexandra township, deserves strong condemnation.

Mayor Mashaba insisted that until such stage as all roads are tarred, this project would not continue.

Parks Tau and the ANC in Johannesburg have now shown their true colours clearly. They are anti-poor and out of touch with the needs of the millions of people who continue to live in squalor, lacking the dignity they rightfully deserve.

The DA congratulates Mayor Herman Mashaba for taking bold steps to put the interests of the poor first. This includes standing up to SANRAL regarding e-tolls and the handing out of thousands of title deeds.

The DA is committed to clean government that fights poverty by delivering better services, stopping corruption, creating jobs and always putting the people first. We will not be distracted by the anti-poor sentiments of the ANC, who have again proved they are out of touch with the rest of South Africa.
