ANC STATEMENT ON THE RAPE OF THE TWO YEAR OLD INFANT IN TZANEEN
The African National Congress is shocked and numbed by yet another rape incident of a two year old infant by a male suspect who is 30 years in Tzaneen today. The suspect on this matter was out on bail for two prior cases of a similar nature involving the rape of a granny and a middle aged woman. This comes at heels of a number of rape incidents recently.
We call on our structures to mobilise our people in their respective communities to work with the police in the fight against the scourge of violating women and children through indecent and traumatizing acts of rape and violence. We call on men in our communities to take a stand against rape and violence. Let us hold hands with women in society towards this end.
As the ANC we reiterate the call made by President Jacob Zuma that harsh sentences be imposed against this beastly behavior. We believe that courts should act decisively against these perpetrators and not to allow them bail. Maximum sentences should be imposed to ensure that this inhuman behavior is completely eradicated.
