ANC takes over Matzikama municipal council

The ANC has today taken over the Matzikama municipality (Vredendal and surrounds on the West Coast).

International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Marius Fransman, ANC Western Cape leader, congratulated the newly elected office bearers.

"The ANC has confidence in the new leadership under mayor (Mrs) Delina Goedeman, her deputy (Mrs) Elsabe Harris and Speaker (Mr) Hennie Nell. They have a mandate to look after the interests of all people, but with a bias to aid the poor," says ANC.

The ANC councillors together with Harris (TPICO representative) took control from the DA coalition assisted by one NGP councillor. Goedeman recently resigned from the DA and fought her former party in the streets in the ensuing by-election
