ANC wishes retiring MPL McKenzie well

The ANC today notes the intention of MPL Patrick McKenzie, its spokesperson on community safety, to retire at the end of the month. The vacancy will be filled in due time.

Mr McKenzie served the party and the people of the province in various capacities. Amongst others he is the past MEC for community safety.

McKenzie started off his political career in 1977 as a Cape Town councillor and served in a number of management positions.

From 1984 he was a member of parliament until 1994. He served in various executive positions in the Western Cape government where he was MEC for welfare and population development, police, local government and cultural affairs, sport and recreation.

"Comrade Patrick's decision to step down now after a long stretch as public servant is respected and we wish him well for the future, as well as to his wife Carol, who served the ANC as a public representative in the Cape Town Metro and the Rondevlei sub council. May they enjoy their future endeavours," say ANC Western Cape secretary Songezo Mjongile and ANC chief whip in the legislature Pierre Uys.
