ANC WELCOMES ELECTORAL COURT RULING ON COMRADE WINNIE MADIKIZELA-MANDELA
The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the ruling today (31 march 2009) by the Electoral Court which found nothing incorrect in the struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's inclusion in the list of ANC candidates for the National Assembly.
We wish to reiterate our support and acknowledge the vital role played by Comrade Madikizela-Mandela in shaping the South African history and politics.
The ANC has always maintained that it will respond to any objections lodged against any of its candidates through the process set down in law and according to the timetable set out by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
The ANC wish to reiterate that it has made every effort to ensure that its list of candidates is compliant with all relevant provisions of the Constitution and Electoral Act.
The process for choosing ANC candidates for this election is the most extensive and democratic of any party in this country. The members of the ANC have chosen a corps of cadres who have the experience, resolve and credibility to serve the South African people capably and with diligence.
