ANC wins another West Coast ward from DA - Marius Fransman

WCape leader says victory means party has now secured outright control of Matzikama Municipality

ANC wins another West Coast ward

ANC is thrilled to win another DA ward and making inroads in gaining more public support to win the Western Cape in the upcoming national elections of 2014. The ANC has once again proven it is on track to reconnect and regain the trust of the voters in the province.

By winning this by-election in Ward 4 of the Matzikama Municipality (Vredendal) the ANC has gained outright control of the council as it now has the majority of councillors. Previously the ANC led the municipality in coalition with a smaller group TPICO.

This victory follows hot on the heels of the success in Ward 2 where the ANC also ousted the DA last year.

The ANC has turned the tables on the DA in Ward 4 of Matzikama and got 3% more votes where the DA previously led by almost 5%! In 2011 the DA had 764 (now 681) and ANC 687 (now 738) votes.

ANC Western Cape leader Marius Fransman (international relations and cooperation deputy minister) says: "The ANC thanks all loyal voters for their support in this by-election. It is wonderful to see the ANC is back at the levels when it previously outright controlled the municipality. This is also where I stayed and served the community as teacher, councillor and mayor of Vredendal.

"It also proves the ANC Western Cape's People's Path to Power strategy is working and the DA is crumbling and continues to lose ground. This has become a trend in the province.

"The ANC is on the move and right track to grow even more. The ANC is looking forward to more positive growth in next month's by-elections in Saldanha, Strandfontein and Philippi."
