Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 12 December 2018

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained five seats and won three seats and the Democratic Alliance (DA) retained one seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections.
The new councillors for the ANC are:
Fanafuth Enock Hlatshwayo in Ward 19 in Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality – TSH. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 63.88% of the votes cast compared to 79.09% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 22.75%.
Mongezi Eugene Nkephu in Ward 23 in Alfred Duma Municipality – KZN238. The party retained the seat it won in the 2016 Municipal Elections, with 50.13% of the votes cast compared to 51.86% in the 2016 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 55.85%.
