DA WINS BY-ELECTION FORCED BY ANC

Yesterday the DA won a by-election in Ward 88 in Nigel, Ekurhuleni. Former DA Councillor, Jake Ceronio, principal of Benoni High School, was forced to resign in September 2011 by the Gauteng Education Department.

Other teachers also working as councillors were not similarly targeted by the Department. The ANC pushed for this by-election thinking they could win it, however they were proven wrong.

The DA scraped a victory in Nigel in the May Local Government elections but yesterday received a landslide 60.1% of the vote, 4321 votes.

The ANC only managed 2801 votes, 39.8% of the vote.   

There was a strong turnout with a 46% poll, which is very high for a by-election. I believe the high turnout reflects confidence in the well run DA ward
