ANCWL welcomes conviction of "Sunday Rapist"

League says Jacobus Steyn is a monster who has no place in society

RE: ANCWL WELCOMES GUILTY VERDICT FOR SUNDAY RAPIST

The ANCWL welcomes the guilty verdict by Judge Sita Kolbe on 33 charges against the Sunday Rapist, Jacobus Steyn. The man is a monster who has no place in society after ruining so many young lives.

He preyed on vulnerable young girls with no remorse for the impact he had on their lives and the ANCWL believe if he was not apprehended he would have continued on his sadistic spree.

His pattern indicated he was a serial rapist and was well on his way to becoming a serial killer as his fetish was transforming into something even more sinister with the murder of 16-year-old Louise de Waal.

The ANCWL would like to commend the families of the victims for the courage they showed throughout the trail, but more especially those victims who testified against Steyn.

We would also like to commend the excellent work of police and prosecutors who have given South Africans faith in the laws and justice system of the country with this conviction.

The ANCWL believe this man is a danger to all young women and girls in society and with that we are calling for the harshest sentence the law will allow. This monster must rot in jail for his actions and we hope this conviction will bring some peace of mind to the victims and to the families who have lost loved ones.

The world was Lousie de Waal and Lezaan Farmer's oyster and Steyn took away every potential opportunity they had to live a full and prosperous life, and for that he must pay with his life behind bars.
