ANC YOUTH LEAGUE SUPPORTS THE CALL FOR THE RELEASE OF THE CUBAN FIVE:
At the risk of facing disciplinary action for speaking about affairs of another country, the ANC Youth League is fully behind the calls for the immediate release of the CUBAN FIVE (Antonio Guerrero, René González, Ramón Labañino, Gerardo Hernández, and Fernando González). In the spirit of international and human solidarity, the ANC Youth League is of the conviction that the incarceration of the Cuban Five by the United States government is not only unjust, but a gross violation of human rights and disrespect of the integrity and sovereignty of Cuba.
There is no International law or treaty in the world of civilised human beings which allows and approves detentions without fair trial, but the United States of America is ignoring such a reality. Typical of its bully and boisterous approach to international politics and relations, the US is once again proving through the incarnation of the Cuban FIVE that it has no respect for humanity and justice. The ANC Youth League is of the view that the contempt the disdain which the USA is showing to international laws and treaties should be opposed by all countries across the world.
All progressive forces in the world should heighten the voices against imperialist domination and bullying of other countries, simply because of their military strength. USA President Barak Obama should prove to the world that he is not a puppet of propertied elite and security forces and show justice to the CUBAN FIVE. Cuba remains for us a revolutionary nation and beacon of hope for the oppressed people of the world. The role Cuba played in liberation struggles in Africa remain a solid memory to live on and on in the lives of our people. The ANCYL will use all platforms to continue to raise the plight of these iconic and uncompromising revolutionaries, whose love for a just and humane society is unparalleled.
