ANC YL STATEMENT ON REPORTS OF A POSSIBLE ARREST OF PRESIDENT JULIUS MALEMA:
31 October 2011
The ANC Youth League notes the news reports of various news agencies concerning what they claim will be a possible arrest of ANC YL President Julius Malema. These reports started with the Sunday Independent, which quoted faceless sources in great detail and therefore failed to clarify the essence of what they wanted to report (see article).
The ANC YL places it on record that there has never been any form of communication between President Julius Malema and the Law enforcement agencies that are said to be investigating the President. The faceless sources quoted in the Newspaper reports are according to us spreading sensational rumours.
The ANC YL is further concerned that everytime the organisation concludes successful political programmes, certain sections of the media try to divert attention by spreading sensational lies and rumours about the leadership of the ANC Youth League. At the conclusion of a very successful 24th National Congress of the ANC Youth League, media houses tried to divert attention and begun to spread rumours and lies about President of the ANC YL.
The ANC YL would like to categorically affirm that cheap and petty politics that seek to veer the organisation away from struggles for economic freedom in our lifetime will never succeed. The spreading of rumours and constant attempts of character assassination actually inspire and agitate the leadership and membership of the ANC YL to fight with more determination.
