ANCYL dismisses Malema arrest rumours

League says it'll cooperate with any Hawks investigation, but hasn't been contacted so far

ANC YL STATEMENT ON REPORTS OF A POSSIBLE ARREST OF PRESIDENT JULIUS MALEMA:

31 October 2011

The ANC Youth League notes the news reports of various news agencies concerning what they claim will be a possible arrest of ANC YL President Julius Malema. These reports started with the Sunday Independent, which quoted faceless sources in great detail and therefore failed to clarify the essence of what they wanted to report (see article).

The ANC YL places it on record that there has never been any form of communication between President Julius Malema and the Law enforcement agencies that are said to be investigating the President. The faceless sources quoted in the Newspaper reports are according to us spreading sensational rumours.

The ANC YL is further concerned that everytime the organisation concludes successful political programmes, certain sections of the media try to divert attention by spreading sensational lies and rumours about the leadership of the ANC Youth League. At the conclusion of a very successful 24th National Congress of the ANC Youth League, media houses tried to divert attention and begun to spread rumours and lies about President of the ANC YL.

The ANC YL would like to categorically affirm that cheap and petty politics that seek to veer the organisation away from struggles for economic freedom in our lifetime will never succeed. The spreading of rumours and constant attempts of character assassination actually inspire and agitate the leadership and membership of the ANC YL to fight with more determination.

The struggle for economic freedom in our lifetime is gaining momentum and will be intensified in all fronts because victory is certain. Those who thought and believed that wealth will not be transferred to the ownership of the people as a whole as called for in the Freedom Charter are illusionary. The Freedom Charter inspired Economic Freedom struggle will triumph and all of society should adjust their future plans and programmes to this reality.

If there is any investigation conducted by Hawks, the leadership of the ANC YL will fully co-operate, because there is completely nothing wrong done on the part of the leadership. This does not mean whatsoever that the leadership will respond to some faceless cowards who secretly speak to Newspapers and fear to come out in the open if they have genuine information.
