ANCYL KZN PTT congratulates Senzo Mchunu

Team says province's new Premier is a seasoned leader, hard worker, strategist and a master tactician

STATEMENT OF THE ANC YOUTH LEAGUE KWAZULU NATAL PROVINCIAL TASK TEAM (PTT) ON THE APPOINTMENT OF CDE SENZO MCHUNU AS THE PREMIER OF THE PROVINCE

The ANCYL PTT welcomes and congratulates Cde Senzo Mchunu on his election as the Premier of KwaZulu Natal. His election undoubtedly takes place on the solid foundation in government as laid by his predecessor, Cde Zweli Mkhize, in implementing the ANC resolutions and policies.

Having been part of the government leadership collective that has been charged with implementing the ANC policies as voted for by the masses of our people in 2009, the election of Cde Senzo Mchunu, who is also the provincial chairperson of the ANC, marks the deeper dynamic continuity of change rather than change in its abstract form.

As a seasoned leader, hard worker, strategist and a master tactician, we are confident that Cde Senzo Mchunu will take the leadership of government in the province to greater heights and indeed will lead the province beyond the 2014 Elections. Our confidence in Macingwane stems, on one hand, from his struggle credentials that are beyond reproach.

On the other hand, his tenure as MEC for Education since 2009 has heralded great successes including, amongst others, the improvement of the Matric results in KZN, the improvement of employment conditions of ECD and ABET practitioners, the extension of the National School Nutrition Program and eradication of mud schools in the province. With all these milestones Cde Mchunu, has consistently demonstrated the highest level of humility, dedication and commitment as the true servant of the people.

A fervent critic of mediocrity, lack of commitment and dedication to the people's cause, Cde Senzo Mchunu will certainly re-invigorate sense of professionalism, dedication, hard work and commitment in both the Executive and the beaurocracy. As the ANC YL we have noted that most of the challenges in rendering services to the people stem from the manner in which the beaurocracy executes its tasks in supporting the government.

We, therefore, call on the Premier and the entire leadership collective in government to spare no time in paying more attention on how the beaurocracy works. We also call for stern actions against those who will be found stalling and frustrating delivery of services to the people.

We also want to thank and congratulate the ANC in the province for the splendid manner in which they handled the transition. In the face of the media barrage and relentless opinions by prophets of doom, the ANC has successfully seen through this transition without any instability and disunity as hoped for by those opposed to the people's cause. Indeed, the ANC has emerged from this process more united and stronger.

We have noted the anti-majoritarian conduct displayed by the DA and IFP in choosing to nominate their own candidates to stand for the position of the Premier. Disguised under the pretext of democracy, we believe this unfortunate conduct by the opposition should be understood for what it is. For the DA, theirs was a continuation of how they treat black people as its political pawns.

Nominating Sizwe Mchunu despite knowing that he will never, even in his wildest dreams, win is yet another clear indication of the DA's character as a racist organization, hell-bent to re-introducing white supremacy by embarrassing black people. DA certainly would not have nominated a white fellow.

As for the IFP, it was just a last kick of horse that is dying its natural death. Combined, the conduct of DA and IFP amounts to an unforgiveable insult to the right-thinking people of KwaZulu Natal of who voted in their in majority for the ANC in 2009. We therefore, call on the people of KwaZulu Natal to see the opposition for what it is and unite behind the progressive agent of change - the ANC.
