ANCYL must release names of faeces-throwing thugs
The convenor of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Western Cape, Muhammad Khalid Sayed, confirmed on national television this afternoon that the men who dumped buckets of faeces on the steps of the Western Cape Legislature earlier today, are members of the ANCYL.
Given this confirmation, Mr Sayed is obliged to release the names of the perpetrators to the South African Police Services. If he refrains from doing this, he can be accused of aiding and abetting the criminals.
Today's action is a continuation of the ANCYL's ungovernability campaign. Those responsible claim they were protesting for flush toilets, even though the portable toilets being provided already have this function.
I urge the police services to do everything in their power to catch the perpetrators and I call on prosecutors to show serious intent as they did in the case of the nine suspects who were arrested and charged under the National Key Points Act after throwing faeces at Cape Town International Airport.
If found guilty, the suspects who were arrested and charged at the end of June, face up to 20 years in jail and/or a fine of R1 million. This should also apply to the ANCYL-members who behaved like thugs today.
