ANC YOUTH LEAGUE STATEMENT ON THE ANC POLICY CONFERENCE
The African National Congress Youth League (ANC YL) will be attending the 4th National Policy Conference of the ANC between the 26th and 29th of June 2012. The ANC Policy Conference allows for all issues of the organization to be presented for discussion and debate. This includes the resolutions of the National general Council of the ANC held in Durban in September 2010. The ANCYL is firm behind the resolutions taken at the 24th National Congress of the ANCYL held in Gallagher Estate in 2011.
The positions formulated for discussion through our discussion documents and consequent resolutions have reaffirmed that Economic Freedom in our lifetime must be realized and that at no point in our history will we fail the mandate of young people in the country. It is therefore that we will continue to call for the discussion of all matters that relate to the ANC within the structures of the movement and we will therefore use this opportunity to strengthen our policy positions and exchange of useful political and ideological issues that define the kind of society we are living in and want to live in.
This includes the pertinent matters that involve the economy including the Nationalisation of Mines and the expropriation of Land without compensation. More attention must be given to the hasty implementation of the Freedom Charter so as to bridge the divide of poverty, inequality and unemployment in our society.
The ANC Youth League reaffirms that debates should take place in a robust spirit and that no policy position of the ANC should be seen to be an alignment of any interest except the broader interests of the majority of our people who are members of the ANC and whose interests they represent.
We further acknowledge that today, 26th June 2012, is regarded as South Africa's Freedom Day in light of the fact that the Freedom Charter was adopted by all South Africans in Kliptown fifty seven years ago. This is very significant in the life of the ANC because it serves as a commitment to our people.
