Another Esidimeni if mental health subsidies not paid

Another Life Esidimeni tragedy looms as NGOs struggle to look after hundreds of mental health patients as the Gauteng Health Department has not paid subsidies to them for two months.

This follows the failure of the Gauteng Social Development Department to pay NGOs as well.

It is scandalous that payment delays happen often to organisations that look after the most vulnerable people in Gauteng.

Meanwhile, Premier Panyaza Lesufi finds money for his pet electioneering projects.

I have to ask this question: Does the Gauteng government hate the weak and helpless who are dependent on others to survive?

There is no excuse for their neglect and cruelty against NGOs in this sector.

It’s due to a mix of incompetence, corruption and a lack of care that comes with the arrogance of long years in power.

Gauteng voters should remember this when they cast their votes next week.
