SADTU welcomes the appointment of new MEC for Basic Education

8 October 2022

SADTU Gauteng congratulates Honourable Panyaza Lesufi on his election as Gauteng Premier. We commend him for the notable diligent execution of the education transformation agenda. We have no doubt he is equal to the task at hand, and we wish him well in his new assignment.

We note the newly constituted provincial cabinet which includes the appointment of honourable Matome Chiloane as MEC for Basic Education. He was the Chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee at the time of his appointment. He is familiar with the challenges and interventions which were unfolding to address them through his stewardship. He brings relevant practical experience and clarity about appropriate course of action.

We trust that he will continue to unreservedly pursue the education transformation agenda underpinned by the Gauteng Provincial Government plan of action. To this end, we trust he will strengthen the stakeholder driven approach to address the complex challenges of the sector in acknowledgment that education is a societal issue.

We congratulate him and wish him well as he assumes this enormous responsibility.

We are looking forward to working with him in advancing quality public education.
