Resignation of SARS COO
PRETORIA 2 December 2014 - The South African Revenue Service (SARS) wishes to announce that, after nearly 9 years, its Chief Operations Officer (COO), Mr Barry Hore, will regrettably be leaving SARS by the end of December 2014.
In explaining his decision, Mr Hore said: "From July 2013 I agreed with Mr Ivan Pillay, the SARS Acting Commissioner at the time, to stay on as COO during the difficult period until a new, permanent Commissioner for SARS was appointed."
Mr Hore has a distinguished career in the information and communication technology industry and in heading core operations. He joined SARS in 2006.
"He has played an instrumental leadership role in implementing a comprehensive modernization programme that has transformed SARS operations from a largely paper-based operating system to an almost completely automated environment with significant benefits to both taxpayers and the institution.
"I want to thank Mr Hore for his selfless commitment and diligence to SARS and for his leadership as a member of the SARS management team," the SARS Commissioner, Mr Tom Moyane, said.
