Beaufort West mayor quits after GBV allegations

7 February 2024

The DA notes the resignation of the Executive Mayor of Beaufort West, Ebeneazer Botha, following allegations of a gender-based violence incident.

His resignation has triggered the dissolution of the mayoral council in Beaufort West, with the Deputy Mayor, Lulama Piti, stepping in to the mayoral position for the time being.

The DA, as the opposition, will make sure that service delivery in Beaufort West does not suffer because of the alleged crimes of the former executive mayor.

The instability under the PA, ANC, and KDF coalition since it took office has already been at the heart of service delivery failures that have left residents to fend for themselves.

The DA is deeply concerned with the caliber of leadership that this coalition of corruption has available and will use our oversight capability to keep abreast of any untoward behaviour.
