Bees Roux must not go unpunished - YCL

League condemns Peter de Villiers' utterances on the matter

YCLSA ON THE TRAGIC DEATH OF METRO POLICE OFFICER MURDERED BY RUGBY PLAYER

3 SEPTEMBER 2010

The Young Communist league of South Africa (uFasimba) notes with sadness the tragic and unfortunate death of the metro police officer Johannes Ntshumane Mogale as a result of an ill-disciplined intoxicated rugby player, Jacobus "Bees" Roux. No amount of conflict or dispute can justify murdering anyone.

We hope that the SAPS and Prosecution will ensure that a thorough investigation unfolds the real events of that day. The conflicting statements of what transpired cannot be used as a means to defend the horrific murder. The barbaric behaviour of Bees Roux can never go unpunished as a live of an innocent man has been abruptly ended unnecessarily.  We send our heartfelt condolences to the Mogale family for the loss of their loved-one.

We affirm our confidence in the judicial process and hope that the law will take its course. The YCLSA further condemns the utterances of Peter De Villiers, the National Coach of the Springboks in supporting an evidently criminal offence. His insensitive comments are an embarrassement to the nation, particularly for someone who holds a national position. We urge that he withdraws his statement and apologise to the bereaved family who are mourning the loss of their loved one.

Statement issued by Gugu Ndima, YCL national spokesperson, September 3 2010
