Bekkersdal: Criminal charges laid - Mmusi Maimane

DA GPC and residents lay charges against ANC and Nelson Mdayi

Bekkersdal criminal charges laid

Note to editors: The Bekkersdal Concerned Residents Association and DA Premier Candidate Mmusi Maimane jointly laid criminal charges against the ANC at the Bekkersdal Police Station this morning.

Criminal charges have been laid against the African National Congress and the alleged Bekkersdal shooter and local ANC leader Nelson Mdayi.

This follows the firing of live ammunition at Bekkersdal residents by an ANC delegation who came to the area last week.

The Bekkersdal Concerned Residents Association and I met this morning to discuss last week's attack as well as the service delivery crisis in the area.

We agreed that we would jointly lay the following criminal charges:

- Against the ANC, in terms of section 9(2)(b) of the Electoral Code of Conduct which forbids gun-toting at political events

- Against local ANC leader and Westonaria municipal employee Nelson Mdayi  in terms of section 84 of the Firearms Control Act which forbids the reckless use of a firearm in public

The Bekkersdal Residents Association informed me of the rampant corruption in government in Bekkersdal . We agreed that the inclusion of corrupt politicians like Humphrey Memezi and Dina Pule on the ANC candidate's list demonstrates a total lack of interest in clean government.

Residents believe we are being led by "thugs and hooligans".

Corruption kills job creation and service delivery for communities who need it the most. Instead of cleaning up its act, Zuma's ANC wants to rule by bullets.

The bullets of the police and the ANC itself have already claimed lives in Durban Deep and Sebokeng. Today we are acting in solidarity with protesting residents to stop this political thuggery.

On 7 May, Gauteng residents have a choice between change that brings jobs and clean government, or 5 more years of corruption and unemployment under Zuma's ANC.
