EFF Western Cape condemns the Western Cape MEC for Mobility, Ricardo Mackenzie for fruitless and wasteful expenditure where in 50 BMW vehicles worth millions were procured in 2022, but today are gathering dust as they have never been used. Since the procurement of this fleet, these vehicles have been parked at the Gene Louw Traffic College for decoration.
The fallacy that the Democratic Alliance (DA) is running a 'clean' government in the Western Cape is proving to be nothing but a curated PR exercise whose intention is to mislead the residents of the province. Well, time is beginning to unmask what the DA really stands for, which is: corruption, white collar crimes, mismanagement of state resources, asymmetric distribution of resources, racism and many other anomalies that continue to undermine the poorest of the poor.
In a province with so much high levels of roads accidents, inequality and asymmetric distribution of resources you have a government that purchases a fleet worth millions of South African tax payers' money just for decoration. How did it come to this that residents of the Western Cape have allowed this mediocre to become the order of the day? How do you purchase a resource with so much money just for display in the midst of such his levels poverty and unemployment? Why was the procurement authorized for traffic vehicles that are not being used today? This is a clear case of mismanagement and abuse of state coffers by the DA led government.
This is fruitless and wasteful expenditure that must be fully investigated. In fact, EFF Western Cape through its public representatives will do an oversight and pay a visit to where these unused BMW vehicles are parked.
