Madikizela will strive towards unity in Western Cape
Cape Town – Despite a scandal surrounding his birthday party, Bonginkosi Madikizela trounced Lennit Max for the top spot in the DA in the Western Cape in what is believed to have been a close race.
Madikizela was elected Western Cape DA leader on Saturday. He acted in this capacity since January, when Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille resigned from the post. He was elected deputy provincial leader in 2015.
After the result was announced, Madikizela’s supporters carried him to the stage, which they then swamped, while some of Max’s supporters left the Every Nation Church in Goodwood, Cape Town, where the congress was held.
This was Max’s fourth unsuccessful bid for the party’s provincial leadership.
