By-election results reaffirm us as true leaders of society - ANC

Party says it won 7 out of 10 wards contested, with one wrestled away from the DA in the WCape

ANC STATEMENT ON BY-ELECTIONS OUTCOME

23 July 2015

In keeping with our commitment to serve our people, the African National Congress has been resoundingly reaffirmed as true leader of society judging by the outcomes of yesterday's by-elections nationally. We contested all by-elections in five provinces covering the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, North West and KwaZulu-Natal.

Of the 10 wards contested, the ANC won 7 wards. Of the seven wards we won, we managed to wrestle a ward held by DA in Matzikama (Vredendal), Western Cape. This augurs well for our preparation for local government elections next year.

We thank the people of our country and the specific communities for demonstrating faith in the ANC and reaffirming our position as the leader of society. We call on our local government structures to continue with our commitment of putting our people first and accelerating service delivery.  Our communities have to heart our commitment that together we continue to build better communities.
